amazing letter came in to us, we wanted to share it with you all: |

Rhonda,
I took your
mother/baby class when my daughter (Brittney) was just 3 months
old. We were starting to get anxious for her first signs, then around
9 months, she just blossomed! "Please" & "all done" were done in
the same meal one day! Mike & I were so excited - and so ready to
begin teaching her more. After those first 2 signs, it seemed like
she picked up a new sign as fast as I could learn them! Now, at
22 months, Brittney has over 350 speaking words, is speaking in
3-5 word sentences, knows more than 30 signs, and links signs together
to make sentences! Brittney's ability to sign has made learning
how to communicate such a joy! I truly believe she is able to communicate
with so many speaking words because of her early understanding of
the basics of communication. I feel like your class really jump-started
her educational process - not to mention mine, as a first time parent.
We now have
an 8 month old little girl, (yes, when you do the math, they're
14 months apart!) Kailee, who just gave us her "milk" sign last
week for the first time! Brittney is constantly trying to get Kailee's
little fingers into the shapes of the different signs she knows
& uses regularly. She especially love's getting Kailee to say "thank
you" because the movement of they're hands together on Kailee's
face, gets a laugh that only Brittney can summon. I am confident
as we enter into new stages with Brittney & re-enter stages with
Kailee, that signing will continue to have an amazing impact on
how our family communicates. I can't tell you how many compliments
we've received about our children, how little they whine, how well
they communicate with people they know & even those they don't know
(both with ASL & with words), and how confident they are in communicating
their needs.
Rhonda, I speak
from the heart when I say...what you are doing is an incredible
gift you are giving each & every parent that walks through the door
to your classroom. It may not seem like something that will last
much past the time when they begin speaking clearly - but I truly
believe Brittney & Kailee both, will continue to use signs for a
long time to come. Brittney will often sign to us when her mouth
is full with food or drink - that way we don't correct her for speaking
with her mouth full. :-) Sometimes I don't know how they come up
with these things! Thank you for your class & the enjoyment it has
brought to our family (extending even out the grandparents, aunts
& uncles).
Kimberly
- Mom to Brittney
