In The NewsBABY SIGN LANGUAGE By Destry Jetton, KGUN 9, June 21, 2006 MOMS AND DADS ARE FINDING NEW WAYS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR BABIES IN TUCSON. IT'S CALLED BABY SIGN LANGUAGE. CLASSES ARE OFFERED ALL OVER TUCSON. IN JUST A FEW WEEKS, YOU'RE BABY COULD BE TALKING. NOT WITH THEIR MOUTH, BUT WITH THEIR HANDS. Parents Sing: "Where is ethan? Where is ethan? There he is. There he is." JAMES CLARK, HIS WIFE,AND HIS SON VINCENT ARE LEARNING HOW TO SIGN. Parents Sing :"Peek a boo, Peek a boo" JAMES CLARK SAYS: "I'm hoping to gain that when he gets older, his communication, his frustration maybe lessened to communicate with us what he wants. Instead of screaming and crying, perhaps he'll sign to get what he wants." VINCENT IS 8 MONTHS OLD, BUT HE'S NOT THE YOUNGEST IN THIS CLASS. IT'S FOR INFANTS TO KIDS UP TO TWO YEARS OLD. RHONDA KING IS THE CLASS INSTRUCTOR. SHE SAYS:"We do a lot of songs and stories and I help the parents learn simple signs for their babies to aid in early communication." THEY START WITH BASICS. RHONDA SAYS:"The basic 3 signs that we recommend to start with are the more sign and milk and finish or all done." THEN, THEY MOVE ON TO FOOD AND FAMILY SIGNS. SOMETIMES KIDS DON'T PAY ATTENTION. BUT, WITH REPETITION THEY LEARN RHONDA SAYS: "The babies are able to communicate so mom or dad know what they need to do." IN THE MEANTIME,THEY HAVE ALOT OF FAMILY FUN.
